As I returned from participating in the MBN Spring Retreat "Celebrating Life", I was reflecting on the significance and meaning of the word "retreat". Webster's definitions - RETREAT - (verb) withdraw from a battle, to move back, (noun) period of retirement for prayer and meditation, place of seclusion, to betake oneself to a place of security BATTLE - (noun) a struggle, any kind of work in face of difficulties / (verb) to fight on a larger scale, put forth great efforts My thoughts filter back to a memory of recently visiting a Civil War Battlefield. Join me, standing on the battlefield. I imagine I am a Confederate or Union soldier, prepared to fight this battle for a cause I passionately believe in. My senses are fully engaged, not knowing at what moment I will encounter the enemy. My mind is constantly working. I struggle to keep my focus in the present, but the worry of the unknown outcome puts me on edge. I am so tired, yet unable to rest. Everyday we are soldiers fighting battles with jobs, relationships, health, finances and more. It is not a wise soldier to fight to his finish. A wise soldier recognizes the value and benefit of a retreat. When you are feeling overcome by the battles of your life, do you force yourself to stay in the fight, in a survival mode ...or do you retreat, refresh, regroup and return with power and passion? Do you draw on the strength, wisdom, courage, and comfort of your platoon? Something wonderful happens when you allow yourself to be embraced and accept your place as a part of the body of MBN. We are complete and fully equipped for any battle when we are connected to each other. Apart from the body, we are vulnerable, overwhelmed, exhausted, and trying to be all things by ourselves. The treasures I am taking with me from my first MBN retreat are: No one person is more or less than another. We all have talents and wisdom. We are all students and teachers. Connected, we have the power and ability to create our destiny. MBN offers a "safe" environment for personal growth and development. Attending the retreat is a powerful way to grow and bond with your platoon. Top it off with laughter, gourmet food, and a surprise appearance from Diana Ross and Supremes! What to do until the next MBN Retreat?? Retreat to the monthly luncheon, retreat to the sub-network meetings. AND... each and every day... retreat with 1 Fun Thing... you are worth it... you deserve it... you earned it... and most of all you need it. |
